Mercamadrid fully supporting the SDGs

ods

Within the framework of the 2020-22 business strategy, Mercamadrid is working to consolidate itself as a leading food organisation, which is growing parallel to the reduction of its activity’s impact on the environment

The predominance of clean energies, sustainable mobility, waste reduction and optimisation, digitalisation and circularity, are some of the projects that many companies in the food enclosure are carrying out.

In this context, Mercamadrid has used a guide to inform of the progress made in the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals marked out by the United Nations.

The Guide is structured in three areas: a first part, in which the different goals and objectives established in the 2030 Agenda are laid out; a second part, in which the actions in line with the SDGs that are being implemented are identified, classified and made visible; and lastly, a third part that informs of some of the actions carried out by the companies in Mercamadrid and that are directed at achieving the different goals and objectives in the 2030 Agenda.

The Guide tackles, under the sustainability perspective, the advance in innovation in the agrifood chain, which includes from innovation in processes and operations to sustainable packaging. Social integration, in which a clear commitment to training in catering, gastronomy and the agrifood sector are clear levers for this goal.

Important advances in the alignment of the activity of the food organisation with the Sustainable Development Goals which, together with the company’s strategy, will help Mercamadrid to become the first wholesale market in Europe that is completely circular and a clear benchmark in sustainability, innovation, connectivity and digitalisation of the sector.

The Practical SDG Guide in Mercamadrid will be updated on a yearly basis.
