An agreement has been signed to develop the flat white nectarine range in Spain
In recent years, the French company AGRO SELECTIONS FRUITS (MAILLARD Genetics) has been involved in the creation of fruit varieties including flat and round peaches and nectarines, apricots, cherries and apples. Its goal has always been to create variety ranges with specific, identifiable flavours in order to offer consumers a quality product throughout the season.
Today, its new generation of flat white nectarines, with high taste potential and excellent presence, allows the company to offer a complete, totally innovative product range. Specifically, the REGAL’IN EUROPE company, which edits MAILLARD genetics globally, at present is marketing 12 varieties that cover the complete mid-season calendar, all of them with the organoleptic pattern of “Maison Maillard”: semi-sweet flavour, complete closing and colouring, aroma and crunchiness.
Last year, the association ‘Nectarine blanch plate’ was created in France, which groups together six important agents from the sector with the aim of planting 300 hectares of the range until 2023 (100 hectares have already been planted). Now, four well-known Spanish companies from the sector are joining this project, respecting the previously signed agreements, to optimise Spanish production: AlbiceFruits, Cinca Group and Frutaria for conventional production and Haciendas Bio exclusively for ecological production.
The plantation target for 2024 is 750 hectares in conventional and 150 in ecological. At the moment, a commitment has already been made to the plantation of 600 hectares, and the rest, until the target is reached, will be placed at the disposal of the farmers in a call for applications.
Flat white nectarines are the response to new consumption trends, since they are products that are healthy, very tasty, practical and ideal for eating outside.
