The ‘Sabor del Año’ seal was created by Monadia in 1995 in France. It is currently present in Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Belgium, Tunisia, Morocco and Mexico.
Thanks to the rigour and impartiality of the methodology used, Sabor del Año (or Flavour of the Year) has gained its position as the benchmark for the leading and best valued organoleptic quality and it is now trusted by consumers, manufacturers, professionals and distributors from the sector alike.
Benefits of the seal of quality
‘Sabor del Año’ contributes to strengthening the positioning of the flavour and quality attributes, at the same time as consolidating the brand image, based on consumer awareness and trust and it also encourages tasting and purchasing the product. It also provides a differential advantage compared to the competition, along with a highly valuable advertising and communication asset.
The candidate products are tested using a blind tasting trial in prestigious sensorial analysis laboratories in Spain. The tasting process uses a panel of 80 regular consumers of the category, without any brand references and following a preparation protocol outlined by the client.
The following 5 criteria are scored from 0 to 10: Flavour, Appearance, Aroma, Texture and General Satisfaction.
The results are rounded up into an average and only if this is over 6 out of 10 and at the same time, it reaches the highest score in the product category, is it granted the recognition of ‘Sabor del Año’ (Flavour of the Year).
