The Pink Lady® apple rewards six sustainable initiatives in the sector
The 2,800 producers of Pink Lady® in Europe, as well as the 100 packaging plants, the 15 distributors and the 11 homologated nurseries, develop projects with an important social dimension.
As part of its corporate social responsibility project ‘Imagine’, aimed at strengthening its global platform based on social progress, environmental conservation and economic efficiency, Pink Lady® Europe has chosen to reward and encourage the commitment, creativity and spirit of initiative of all those who contribute to moving forward with this adventure initiated over 20 years ago.
Pink Lady® Europe has awarded prizes to the 6 best sustainable initiatives in the sector. The ‘Talents’ were handed out last December during the Pink Lady® general assembly in Montauban.
The professional jury chose the following winners:
1/ Social integration
Venanci Grau, Serrater, Girona. For its social component which guarantees the integration and development of the employees, most of whom are foreigners.
2/ Ecoconversion by Insect Farm
Mesfruits, Cavaillon, France. For capitalising 100% of the apple production waste supporting an innovative solution of protein production for animal feed (MUTATEC).
3/ Territorial communication
VOG, South Tyrol, Italy. For the preparation of a regional, multi-purpose communication device, to inform about the work performed by the producers and the values of the apple sector in this region.
4/ Global responsibility approach
Remy Foissey, Jonquières Saint Vincent, France. For its environmentally- responsible production, which responds to consumers’ social expectations.
Another initiative was chosen by professional press journalists:
5/ Preservation of the ecosystem in wetland areas
Benoît Laforgue, EARL de Montfourcaud, Bessens, France. For the performance of an environmental diagnosis with the regional naturalist association and preparation of a series of actions to preserve the biodiversity of wetlands close to the orchards.
And another initiative chosen by the consumer members of the Pink Lady® club:
6/ Food bank patronage
Robert-Pierre Cechetti, les Vergers de Mauguio, Hérault, France. A fight against food wastage and the implementation of a solidary project for the underprivileged.
