Berries prepare for their XI International Congress

The International Berry Congress, organised by Freshuelva, celebrates its 11th edition on 17 and 18 June in Huelva

The event will feature four main areas of activity.

Firstly, there will be an official programme of conferences, presentations and round-table discussions addressing topics related to innovation, sustainability, marketing, access to new markets, and the health and socio-economic value of berries.

A second area will host an exhibition and commercial stands where companies will showcase their products and services.

There will also be a dedicated commercial presentation space featuring a parallel programme of technical talks and conferences delivered by suppliers and industry companies.

Finally, an area dedicated to business meetings and networking will encourage collaboration and coworking among companies, speakers and industry professionals.

Berries by the numbers

Spanish berry exports reached a total of 426,527 tonnes and €2.114 billion in 2025, reinforcing their importance within Spain’s fruit and vegetable export sector.

Strawberries remain the leading export product, while blueberries and raspberries stand out for their significant contribution to total export value.

Together, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries account for 98% of both total export volume and value, confirming their dominant role within the sector.

Meanwhile, smaller categories such as blackberries and currants maintain a more limited presence, although they contribute to diversifying the export offering.

According to FEPEX data, strawberries continue to lead in volume, with 265,183 tonnes, representing 62% of total exports. They are followed by blueberries with 100,241 tonnes (23.5%) and raspberries with 53,178 tonnes (12.5%).

Blackberries account for 6,765 tonnes, representing 1.6% of the total, while currants reach 1,160 tonnes (0.3%).

In terms of value, strawberries also lead with €871 million, equivalent to 41% of the total. Blueberries follow with €691.5 million (33%) and raspberries with €505 million (23.9%). Blackberries generate €43 million and currants €3.7 million.

The export structure of the Spanish berry sector remains highly concentrated around these three major products, which together represent more than 98% of total export volume and value.

As for destinations, Spanish berry exports are heavily focused on the European Union market, with Germany, France and the United Kingdom remaining the principal destinations.
