Fitó offers a cucumber portfolio that combines innovation, resistance and commercial quality, with a range capable of covering virtually the entire production calendar across the Dutch, French and Spanish cucumber segments. The portfolio has been developed with growers’ real needs in mind and validated in the main production areas of southern Spain.

“At Fitó, we want to be the grower’s partner. Our job is to develop solutions that address the challenges they face every day in the field, whether viruses, pests or diseases,” says Alberto Lasheras, Cucumber Crop Advisor at Fitó.

A portfolio for every stage of the crop

The company’s strategy is based on providing a specific solution for every transplanting window.

In the Dutch cucumber segment, the range begins with Mitre for summer transplants, continues with Nairobi for early autumn and spring crops, and is completed by Moscú and Helsinki for winter production cycles.

Meanwhile, in French cucumber, Normando has established itself as one of the market’s leading varieties thanks to the confidence it provides both growers and marketers, particularly due to its resistance to CGMMV. In addition, the company is already working on new developments that will complete the winter production cycle within this segment.

In Spanish cucumber, Caudal continues to strengthen its position as one of Fitó’s flagship varieties thanks to its broad transplanting window, outstanding commercial quality and comprehensive resistance package, particularly against CGMMV.

“Our objective is to offer a complete range that enables growers to cover the entire production calendar with commercial, productive varieties adapted to every stage of the crop,” Lasheras explains.

Genetic innovation

One of the cornerstones of Fitó’s strategy remains its continuous investment in research and development.

This work translates into increasingly well-balanced varieties, offering improved resistance and better prepared to cope with demanding growing conditions.

In this area, the company has developed SmartQ technology, a breeding approach based on combining different genes to produce more balanced plants, better adapted to climatic stress and with a greater ability to withstand diseases and adverse growing conditions.
