FEDEMCO will attend Fruit Attraction with a clear commitment to differentiating wooden packaging from other packaging options through objective, measurable and verifiable environmental information.
At a time when the European regulatory framework is strengthening transparency in environmental communication and restricting unsupported generic claims, the Spanish Federation of Wooden Packaging and Components is pursuing a data-driven strategy. Its main initiative for this edition will be the development of a sector-wide EPD based on the Life Cycle Assessment of wooden packaging.
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a Type III environmental declaration that communicates quantified information on a product’s environmental performance in a structured manner and according to common methodological rules. It is based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and the resulting information is subject to independent verification.
The Regional Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Innovation and Trade, under the 2026 INENTI call for grants supporting non-economic activities carried out by business associations that promote the reindustrialisation of the Valencian Community, has approved funding covering 70% of FEDEMCO’s Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) project for wooden packaging.
From environmental claims to data
During Fruit Attraction, FEDEMCO will present the project to institutions, specialised trade media and retail representatives, with the aim of conveying to the entire fresh produce supply chain the value of a sector-wide EPD as a tool for differentiation and environmental transparency. The presentation will take place on 8 October at 10:00 a.m. at FEDEMCO’s stand, 3B21, Hall 3.

“Sustainability can no longer rely solely on messages. An EPD allows us to move from environmental claims to data: measuring performance using a recognised methodology, submitting the information to independent verification and communicating it transparently and comparably when the methodological conditions are equivalent,” says Emilio J.
