Sorma Group, a leading technical partner for fruit and vegetable operators in postharvest processing and packaging, introduces Sorma Clipless, a packaging solution manufactured entirely from a single plastic material. Its innovation lies in eliminating metal clips while offering greater strength than the plastic alternatives currently available on the market, which are generally more expensive and heavier.
Its mono-material structure — net and label made from the same HDPE-2 polymer — simplifies both end-of-life waste management and packaging operations.
From an environmental and social perspective, Sorma Clipless also encourages responsible consumer behaviour by allowing the entire package to be disposed of in the plastic recycling stream without the need to separate different material components beforehand, thereby improving the actual circularity of the packaging.
At the same time, the innovation delivers significant operational advantages during the packing phase. The absence of metal closures or other accessory materials eliminates the need for operators to manage and replace consumables, while enabling higher machine productivity, reaching up to 30 packs per minute.
This translates into a more continuous packaging process and greater ease of use for packing line operators.
In addition, the solution is extremely versatile and robust, making it ideal for packing a wide range of fruit and vegetable products in formats ranging from 500 g to 3 kg — therefore accommodating heavier weights than those currently available on the market — while maintaining functionality and presentation quality comparable to traditional packaging solutions.

Sorma Clipless also offers greater branding opportunities. The graphic area of the label has been expanded to 160 mm in length and can be fully customised to enhance both brand visibility and product presentation at the point of sale.
This nets are also available in different colours, ensuring an attractive appearance and consistency with the corporate identity of the user company.
“The innovation was developed for the European market, where increasing attention to environmental sustainability and packaging process simplification are key competitiveness factors,” explains Mario Mercadini, the company’s Marketing Director.
“However, its application is not limited to Europe. The technical and functional characteristics of the packaging also make it potentially suitable for international markets that share similar requirements in terms of efficiency, recyclability and environmental impact reduction.”
