“A selling point on the supermarket shelves”

Sweet Palermo

For the third year running Sweet Palermo®️ has been recognised by Flavour of the Year, an award that allows it to be differentiated from other products and attracts consumer attention

Once again, Spanish consumers have recognised the extra-sweet, conical-shaped pepper Sweet Palermo®️ with the Flavour of the Year award. This award identifies the products that stand out on the supermarket shelves due to their unique, differentiating flavour.

“The complete range (red, yellow and chocolate) has been presented under the Sweet Palermo umbrella and the award has been given to the entire range,” comments Javier García Rigol, Chain Specialist at Rijk Zwaan. The range obtained the same recognition back in 2021, while in 2020, the year they presented red Sweet Palermo®️ on its own, it won the award for it.

“This type of recognition means a great deal to Rijk Zwaan. We are very happy both for the brand itself, because it is one of our most emblematic products, and for our producers.” And the fact is that the award recognises the differentiating quality of the product, and, at the same time, it helps consumers to easily recognise it on the supermarket shelves.

“Our products’ value must be communicated. To that end, we give the companies the necessary communication tools so that they can do this, to ensure that consumers recognise the products and buy them when their attention is drawn to them. Additionally, for those who have yet to try Sweet Palermo®️, the stamp is a selling point that invites consumers to try it. And once consumers try Sweet Palermo®️ they become hooked.”

Life Is Sweet

Very sweet, with a thin skin, hardly any seeds, particularly versatile and very rich in vitamin C. This is the range of Sweet Palermo®️ peppers, available all year long in their different formats. Its characteristics have consolidated it as the favourite of consumers with the 2022 Flavour of the Year and it has also won awards in other competitions. In 2012, it was the Best sweet pepper in the Netherlands, in the New Fresh category of Foodlog; in 2015, it was Product of the Year at Fresh Market Poland; in 2018, at the FICA Summer Event in the Netherlands, for the Recipe of sweet red Palermo with chocolate; and in 2020 it won the Superior Taste Awards from the International Taste Institute. In Belgium, it won the recognition of the most prestigious chefs in the World, with three stars for its yellow version.
