The cooperative from Almeria is doubling its ecological production surface area for the next campaign
The company, a reference in tomatoes, is consolidating its Bio option and doubling the surface area with a total of approximately 115 hectares. In the Eco range, the products being marketed are: vine tomatoes, Rebelión, pear tomatoes, vine and loose cherry tomatoes, pear cherry tomatoes, Dutch cucumbers, courgettes, California peppers and mini watermelons. Vine tomatoes, courgettes and cherry tomatoes are the leaders in this range of specialities.
CASI foresees continuing to increase its activity in ecological production, with the brand “Organic by CASI”. At present, there is another 30% of production that is in a conversion phase and that will become ecological in a year’s time, which would mean a definitive positioning in this segment.
In the words of marketing manager for ecological production, Ángel Gutierrez, “when taking stock of the last campaign, CASI is closing with a volume of approximately 7,000 tonnes of marketed ecological produce, an appreciable increase compared to the previous campaign and with the best responses from our buyers,” and he adds that “our commitment is to carry on growing, maintaining the satisfaction of our customers and farmers, in order to reach the level obtained with conventional produce, with the idea of CASI becoming a reference in ecological production.”
The Cooperative started the Ecological production project in 2015 and from the very start it has had an important human team, specialised in this segment: widely experienced technicians in the fields, farmers specialising in this type of product, a centre in Níjar solely devoted to the preparation and handling of organic produce and a sales team with specific ideas for the “Organic by CASI” line. A set of ingredients to ensure that “Organic by CASI” continues to grow, becoming consolidated within the references for the sector.
