Escobi increases its eco offer

This segment already makes up almost 10% of its total volume

The company from Almeria, Frutas Escobi, has decided to maintain its line of work even though tomatoes are losing steam in favour of other more profitable produce. “Although it is true that there are third countries that have increased production, there are times of the year when Almeria has its niche and it continues to be highly appreciated internationally. We believe that, although at the moment we are coping with this situation (of low prices), it could just be circumstantial and the best way to deal with this scenario is to improve all the aspects of the product, in terms of quality, flavour, or any other. The market is smart and we can differentiate our produce by doing an excellent job.”

The tomato line by Frutas Escobi is based on volume types such as pear and vine tomatoes, both in conventional and in bio productions, with volume growth forecasts of 5% compared to the previous campaign. This evolution forms part of an expansion strategy for which they have started up a 20 Hectare extension of the surface area. Currently, a large part of this land is ecological. “Our eco offer already makes up around 10% and we continue to increase it,” sources from the company explain. Other new developments that are being developed are the consumption of renewable energy, as well as developing biodegradable packaging.

Within the range offered by Frutas Escobi there are courgettes, aubergines, cucumbers, melons and peppers. The increase in demand for pepper specialities such as Sweet bite and Palermo stands out.
