Natural Tropic continues growing, with sustainability at all levels
The company from Malaga, Natural Tropic is tackling the new campaign, focussed on reinforcing its commitment to sustainability at all levels. With regard to production, it continues to grow at a rate of 30% on its own farms, mainly in organic crops, which are completely environmentally-friendly and following the boom in demand by European consumers, now representing 25% of its total volumes.
In order to fight the war on plastic, the company continues to opt for ‘ecofriendly’ packaging and is in conversations with different supermarket chains to study the implementation of new formats using cardboards and other materials. “We are carrying out studies on the life span of cardboard packaging, biodegradable flow packs and cellulose meshes,” the manager Prudencio López explains to Fruit Today.
And a third part of this sustainable strategy is formed by the commitment to ecological produce, also for its pre-prepared range, with a new ecological guacamole that is added to the offer already available in conventional products (spicy and mild guacamole).
Natural Tropic’s work philosophy is based on its own production (it has 250 hectares of cropland and it continues increasing the surface area), and it also has alliances with reliable suppliers in Peru and Mexico to complete the 12 month sales calendar in counter season.
Its offer in fresh produce consists of avocadoes as its main product, followed by custard apples, mangos, kumquats and medlar fruit.
On a commercial level, the national market makes up 35% of its trade balance and this is continuing to grow. The company exports the remainder of its produce, mainly to Europe, where the company is positioned on the main markets (France, Germany, England, the Nordic countries…), but also to more distant destinations, such as South Africa and South America, thanks to the quality of its produce, endorsed by the most demanding certificates (GLOBAL G.A.P., Agricultura Ecológica -CAAE-, Field to Fork -M&S- e IFS – Food).
