Pinazo, the evolution of Sorolla

29 May, 2019

At the latest Almeria trade fair, Infoagro, the seed company Intersemillas presented its Piel de Sapo melon, Pinazo. With this new variety, they intend to take the orange-fleshed melons up to the next level.

Orange-fleshed Piel de Sapo melons are exclusive to Intersemillas. Pinazo is a continuation of the line started with Sorolla, a research and innovation product developed by the company. “We are offering a fruit with a high content of beta-carotenes. This is the differentiating aspect with the other options that are on the market,” states Maria Gómez, the company’s head of marketing.

The difference presented by Pinazo is its smaller size, which is ideal for export.

They also presented the melon M-10461, in a pre-commercial phase. It is a white-fleshed Piel de Sapo that is very complete regarding production, setting, development, crunchy flesh, sweet flavour…

In watermelons, they have a new diploid variety, S-10754 that has a very small amount of micro seeds, to be used both for consumption and for pollinating.
