Hortifrut has appointed Carmelo Gabarro as Executive Vice President for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), a position from which he will lead the company’s strategy and operations across these markets. Gabarro took up his new responsibilities in July and reports directly to Héctor Luján, CEO of Hortifrut, as the company seeks to strengthen the development and growth of its international operations.

26 years of experience at Hortifrut

Gabarro has spent 26 years at Hortifrut, holding a range of positions related to production, varietal development and business management.

Genetics has been one of the key areas of his career. He was involved in the development of pioneering blueberry varieties for the EMEA region, designed to deliver differentiated characteristics to target markets.

He subsequently took on responsibilities in production management and progressed through the company’s structure before becoming General Manager.

His experience across different areas of the business gives him a broad perspective for his new role, spanning genetics and production through to business management.

Strengthening international operations

The appointment places an executive with direct experience across different stages of the berry business at the head of Hortifrut’s regional operations. In EMEA, varietal differentiation, quality and the availability of fruit across different periods of the year are becoming increasingly important factors.

Hortifrut highlights Gabarro’s in-depth knowledge of the company, together with his experience and strategic vision, as key assets for the next stage of growth in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The appointment comes as Hortifrut continues to strengthen its international presence and global berry strategy, with particular attention to the development of its operations across the EMEA region.
