Bonnysa: “The future lies in healthy eating”

Through vertical integration, its expertise in fresh-cut and ready-to-eat products and an ambitious expansion plan in tropical fruit and table grapes, Bonnysa demonstrates how tradition and innovation can work together to succeed in international markets
BONNYSA

Against a global backdrop marked by climate volatility, operating costs and unfair competition from third countries, Bonnysa remains firmly on course with a clear identity. Founded in 1956, the Alicante-based company has evolved from its historic leadership in tomatoes into an integrated agri-food group focused on tropical fruit, seedless table grapes and convenience solutions.

“Our strategy has always been based on the vertical integration of the value chain,” explains Jorge Ignacio Brotóns, Commercial Director at Bonnysa. “Since our beginnings 70 years ago, we have been committed to controlling the entire process, from seed to distribution. This guarantees consistent quality, maximum food safety and continuity of supply as a long-term strategic partner.”

Ready-to-eat and locally grown tropical fruit

For Bonnysa, the field is at the heart of the company, but its processing plant is also one of the driving forces behind its future. Its fresh-cut and ready-to-eat range — including flagship products such as fresh grated tomato, guacamole and the international “Sabores del Mundo” range — responds to the demands of urban consumers seeking convenience without compromising on health.

“We do not simply sell fruit and vegetables: we offer a healthy lifestyle with Mediterranean origins,” Brotóns says. The next step will include new on-the-go launches and packaging with minimal environmental impact.

In fresh fruit, Bonnysa is championing locally grown European papaya produced in Tenerife, harvested at optimum ripeness to guarantee significantly higher Brix levels and better flavour than fruit imported from distant origins. This is complemented by its strategy for bananas, with a global plan aimed at raising standards.

Global ambitions in table grapes

In seedless table grapes, the company ranks among Spain’s top five, with differentiated, high-flavour varieties. In the near future, Bonnysa plans to expand its planted area, introduce new varieties and further develop this business line.

“This year we have grown by 2 million kilos, and over the coming years we envisage exponential growth with the aim of becoming a global table grape supplier,” Brotóns explains.

This global vision will be showcased at events such as Fruit Attraction (Stand 3C02, Hall 3) and SIAL Paris (Stand P-256, Hall 3).

“We want to be the partner of choice, helping retailers bring greater dynamism to the shelf with authentic Mediterranean flavour,” Brotóns concludes.
