Coinciding with this new stage, EVAM (Euro Varieties Agronomic Management, S.L.), the variety holder in Spain, and the Compañía de Variedades Vegetales Protegidas A.I.E. (CVVP) have launched an Identification System designed to guarantee fruit origin and traceability from planting through to the point of sale.
For the implementation and management of the Identification System, EVAM has reached agreements with VisualNacert and Gesvatec, incorporating tools and expertise successfully applied in Spain to other protected citrus varieties.
The system will make it possible to verify that fruit marketed as EARLYNA® comes from authorised plantations, protecting the investment and work of sublicensed growers while providing greater guarantees for operators, buyers and consumers.
With an increasing number of orchards entering production, EARLYNA® is strengthening its position within the Spanish early mandarin calendar.
A mandarin filling a real gap in the calendar
EARLYNA® occupies a particularly interesting position within the Spanish citrus calendar, with its main marketing period falling between weeks 45 and 49. Its outstanding earliness, distinctive flattened shape and full colour development — which allows it to be marketed without the need for degreening — favour its presence in the market for leaf mandarins.

These characteristics are complemented by an agronomic and commercial profile that has attracted interest from growers and operators: good performance in long-distance transport, low susceptibility of the skin to pixat, absence or very low seed presence even under cross-pollination conditions, resistance to Alternaria and good behaviour against red spider mite and other citrus mites.
Controlled development to preserve value
The development of US Early Pride in the Iberian Peninsula is limited to 2,000 hectares within a controlled growth strategy aimed at maintaining the balance between supply and demand, helping to preserve the value of the variety and the long-term profitability of growers.
The EARLYNA® brand is available to sublicensed growers and packers participating in the Identification System, promoting a consistent and differentiated image for consumers, regardless of the operator responsible for packing the fruit.
