FRESHUELVA-CONTRATACIONES

Freshuelva has completed the selection processes in Guatemala and Honduras for 878 workers who will join its member companies from January for the upcoming red berry harvesting campaign.

The selection processes form part of the workforce planning for the next campaign and contribute to the diversification of countries of origin within Spain’s recruitment-from-origin programmes.

166 workers selected in Guatemala

Freshuelva selected 166 workers in Guatemala following a three-day selection process. All of them have agricultural experience and will join the next campaign alongside Guatemalan workers who have already taken part in previous seasons.

During its visit to the country, Freshuelva representatives also held a meeting with Vice Minister of Social Welfare and Employment María Victoria Claudia Nineth Peneleu and the Spanish consul in Guatemala.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the recruitment-from-origin process and discuss potential improvements for future selection procedures, particularly regarding visa management and coordination of the arrangements required to facilitate workers’ travel.

712 workers selected in Honduras

The process in Guatemala follows a selection carried out in Honduras, where Freshuelva selected 712 workers over the course of a week to join the upcoming campaign.

The selection process began in the town of Nacaome and was attended at its launch by Honduran Minister of Labour Fernando Puerto, Vice Minister Juan Carlos Rodríguez and Spanish Consul Laura Mayoral Aguilera.

Through these two initiatives, Freshuelva is continuing to anticipate the workforce requirements identified by its member companies and to promote the orderly incorporation of workers into the campaign.

Continuing recruitment from origin

The incorporation of the 878 workers selected will be complemented by the return of workers who have participated in previous campaigns.

Freshuelva will continue working with the Spanish authorities and those in the countries of origin to improve coordination and streamline the procedures involved in recruitment from origin.
