Hispatec drives AI adoption in the fresh produce sector

The global company will present new Margaret AI capabilities at Fruit Attraction to automate repetitive tasks in the field, warehouse and office, based on a data model specifically designed for the fruit and vegetable industry

For a fresh produce company or cooperative, the useful question about artificial intelligence is not which model is the most powerful, but which repetitive tasks the team can stop doing and what information the machine will work with.

With this approach, Hispatec Agrointeligencia will bring to Fruit Attraction 2026, taking place from 6 to 8 October at IFEMA Madrid, AI solutions designed to reduce the time spent on repetitive and automatable tasks. The company will lead the Innova & Tech area from stand 5C12 in Hall 5, under the slogan “How much do you want to grow?”. Margaret is the AI platform supporting multiple agents and assistants designed to accelerate the work of different roles within fresh produce companies and cooperatives, including Margaret PA, Margaret Documents and Margaret Planner.

Ask Margaret PA as you would ask a colleague

One of the main benefits of using Margaret Professional Assistant for fresh produce organisations is the ability to interact naturally and in real time with Hispatec’s systems, in any language.

Users can, for example, send Margaret a WhatsApp voice message requesting a report from their system and receive it on their own phone or on the phone of another person within moments. Margaret PA is already available and integrated with all of the technology company’s systems, covering field operations, sales and purchasing, packing and warehousing, finance and shipment tracking.

From paper to the system, without typing

Margaret Documents automates processes that begin with a document. A photograph of a delivery note or paper order sent via WhatsApp, a PDF or Excel file received by email, or a file arriving through system integration can all be processed by Margaret.

The platform reads the document, validates the information and enters it into Hispatec’s commercial, financial and logistics management systems without manual intervention. It includes specialised processors for invoices, delivery notes and orders, helping reduce data-entry errors and freeing teams to focus on higher-value tasks.

“To automate tedious, repetitive tasks that generate errors, AI needs to run on an integrated and consistent data model. Generic models that do not include all the processes specific to the fresh produce sector will not generate value, but disappointment,” says José Luis Molina, CEO of Hispatec Agrointeligencia.

Without Hispatec’s data model, it would not be fresh produce AI

What makes Margaret a specialised AI is not the algorithm, but the foundation on which it operates.

In this sector, one kilogram entering a facility is not necessarily one kilogram shipped; a lot changes identity between the field and the pallet; and the same treatment may have a different safety interval depending on the crop and a different maximum residue limit depending on the destination supermarket.

Margaret understands these specificities because it is based on the data model that Hispatec has built over four decades through its field, plant, commercial and logistics systems. This model also harmonises curated data sources specific to the sector.

Without this data model, Margaret would simply be another AI platform. With it, it becomes an AI system that understands the fresh produce business.

Thanks to this sector-specific knowledge, Margaret Planner is designed to support production directors at packing facilities by using AI to organise the most efficient production sequence for orders according to as many criteria and constraints as required.

“A general-purpose language model has read almost everything that has been written, but it knows nothing about the day-to-day reality of our business,” explains Gonzalo Martín, Chief Product and Strategy Officer at Hispatec.
