The latest edition of Fruit Logistica was marked by the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
This edition experienced some circumstances that nobody could have predicted. At any event, could you give me your final evaluation of the fair?
Now that we are seeing how other events are being cancelled and postponed, we are aware of how lucky we were and that Fruit Logistica was held with almost complete normality. This has consolidated its position as the most important international event in the fruit and vegetable growing sector, and the world showcase for the innovations and knowledge platform for the entire chain of value. In spite of it presenting an unprecedented challenge, it brought together over 3,300 exhibitors and 72,000 trade visitors.
What is your opinion of the Spanish participation in the event, after the boom of Fruit Attraction?
Spanish participation is stable, and it is one of the most important countries taking part. Attendance at Fruit Logistica is essential for Spanish companies to develop international trade. As these are trade fairs that take place at different times of the year, exhibitors take advantage of the different fairs with different goals.
Do you think that there could be an increase in exhibitors from Latin America or do you think this attendance already peaked?
Over the last few editions, the presence of Latin American companies has increased. Companies with an exporter profile that can serve specific quality and volumes to promote their exports, along with producers that are organising themselves in large associations and groups to reach the European market better and stronger are all exhibiting. Fruit Logistica is a fantastic event for them to learn what the sector needs and how to reach this goal.
Which seminars or conferences would you highlight out of everything that occurred at this edition?
In view of the fact that sustainability is becoming a pressing issue for different areas, Fruit Logistica has published the most extensive research to date about the environmental challenges and ethical sustainability being faced by the fruit and vegetable market at present, ‘DoTheRightThing (Right)’, which can be downloaded from the website and is a very valuable resource.
Are plans to hold Fruit Logistica Shanghai going ahead?
We already cancelled the next edition of China Fruit Logistica in February, for obvious reasons. Our next event will be in Singapore, where Asia Fruit Logistica will be held from the 16th to the 18th of September at the Singapore EXPO centre.
