Smurfit Westrock has introduced FibreSeal™, a heat-sealable kraft paper designed to replace plastic film in e-commerce, FMCG and multipack applications.
This solution, which helps reduce carbon footprint, combines mechanical strength, flexibility and heat-sealing capability, offering a recyclable alternative to traditional plastic bags and bundling solutions in applications where oxygen barrier properties are not required.
To enable a smooth transition towards sustainability, the paper is compatible with existing production equipment and does not require additional investment, as it can be processed on current plastic packaging lines.
FibreSeal™ replaces single-use plastics and has a wide range of applications across multiple sectors, from e-commerce to retail. Thanks to its versatility, it can be used for promotional multipacks; in food packaging for products such as pasta, rice or coffee bags, as well as multipacks of dry goods like biscuits or snacks; in home and DIY segments for items such as tissues, nappies, screws or kitchen utensils; and in stationery for bundling pens, markers or notebook packs.
The material also stands out for its high tear and burst resistance, adapting to the products it contains through different paper weight configurations. It can be printed and customised, offering strong branding opportunities, and is supplied in reels of various sizes according to customer needs.
