Arrigoni Group addresses the challenge of pests in vegetable seedling production

At GreenTech Amsterdam 2026, the Group will present BIORETE® AIR PLUS and its agrotextile solutions to support growers in the physical protection of crops, in line with increasingly strict integrated pest management protocols

The growing pressure from insect pests in open fields, combined with the evolution of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) protocols and the gradual reduction in the use of plant protection products, is driving the need for new protection strategies in vegetable seedling production.

In this context, Arrigoni Group offers agrotextile solutions designed to provide physical, preventive and sustainable crop protection. This approach will be presented to an international audience at GreenTech Amsterdam 2026, taking place from 9 to 11 June, where the Group will showcase its BIORETE® AIR PLUS range.

Developed with ARLENE HT® monofilament, characterised by low thickness and high tenacity, the range is designed to prevent the passage of the smallest and most harmful insect species, while allowing greater airflow thanks to the high number of holes per square metre.

A growing challenge for seed production

The protection of vegetable crops intended for seed production is now one of the most delicate challenges facing the agricultural sector. In open-field conditions, the presence of insect pests and virus vectors exposes these crops to significant risks, both in terms of plant health and final production quality.

Thrips, aphids, whiteflies and other phytophagous insects can compromise plant development through direct damage to plant tissues and, above all, through the transmission of viruses and phytopathologies.

In seed production, where genetic quality, seed health and compliance with supply chain requirements are essential, even limited pressure from insect vectors can have major consequences for production stability and crop value.

Integrated pest management and reduced chemical use

The evolution of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) protocols is further complicating this scenario, as it promotes strategies based on prevention, monitoring and the priority use of non-chemical solutions.

This approach is in line with the new European legislative framework, which is geared towards the sustainable use of plant protection products and the gradual reduction of chemical inputs, including in open-field production.

For vegetable seed production, this means adopting tools capable of ensuring effective pest protection without compromising ventilation, microclimatic balance, mechanical resistance or environmental sustainability.

The technologies developed by Arrigoni Group fit within this framework, offering a physical, preventive and sustainable response to the needs of modern integrated protection.

BIORETE® AIR PLUS: protection, ventilation and resistance

Among the solutions developed by Arrigoni Group, BIORETE® AIR PLUS is designed to meet the needs of the most sensitive productions, such as vegetable seedling crops, with insect-proof nets made from fine, high-strength and high-tenacity yarn.

The range provides effective and natural protection against even very small insects, such as thrips, as well as aphids and aleurodids, including whitefly. These pests are particularly critical because they can cause direct crop damage and transmit viruses and pathogens.

BIORETE® AIR PLUS solutions are based on the Perfect Balance concept, which combines insect control, high ventilation and strong mechanical resistance.

Thanks to ARLENE HT® monofilament, a key element of the range, the nets ensure stability, airflow and consistent performance both in open fields and in Net-House greenhouses. This helps limit the entry of harmful insects without compromising the favourable microclimate needed for plant development.

A strategic value for vegetable seedling crops

“For vegetable seedling crops, where quality and production health are essential requirements, physical protection takes on strategic value. With BIORETE® AIR PLUS, we offer a solution capable of combining insect control, high ventilation and mechanical resistance, contributing to a more sustainable and resilient agricultural model,” said Patrizia Giuliani, Sales Director of Arrigoni Group.

At GreenTech Amsterdam 2026, the Arrigoni team will welcome growers, distributors and partners at stand 245, hall 01, where it will share application experiences, present the product range and discuss emerging needs in phytosanitary protection for horticulture and seed production.

Arrigoni Group’s international tour will then continue at GreenTech North America, taking place on 23 and 24 September at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.
