Frutas E. Sánchez is taking the plunge into the banana/plantain sector

23 April, 2019

With new installations in Mercamadrid, the Grupo Frutas E. Sánchez will add another commercial line: bananas/plantains

It is one of the largest business groups that had not yet decided to enter this category. But now it is doing so on a large scale, with no less than 18 ripening rooms.

This new commercial line coincides with the start up of the new logistics centre that the company intends to open in the month of May.

The new logistics centre will unify all the warehouses in Madrid on a central platform with a surface of 12.000 m². Sources from the company explained that “the idea is to unify the different warehouses and the packaging rooms in Fuenlabrada, specialised in supermarkets, aimed at gaining efficiency in all the processes of the chain.”

The installations, located next to the market’s administration centre, have 4 floors: an underground basement, where the engines are installed alongside the car park; a street level floor with 16 loading bays and a central area of 2,500 m² with rooms at different temperatures and capacity for 2,400 cold pallets. This level also houses the 18 banana ripening rooms. On the next floor, the packaging work will be carried out for supermarkets, and the offices will be located on the top floor.
