According to data from the MAPA consumption panels, in December 2015, potato consumption in Spain stood at 21.91 kilos per person per year. This figure rose to 23.10 kilos in December 2020, driven by the pandemic. However, by December 2023, consumption had dropped significantly to 18.20 kilos per person per year. The figure is even lower in July 2025, reaching 17.40 kilos per person per year.

In contrast, consumption of frozen potatoes has recorded a significant increase of around 18%.

Interestingly, within the Iberian Peninsula, these figures contrast sharply with neighbouring Portugal, where consumption remains close to 90 kilos per person per year.
