AMFRESH has announced the arrival in Spain of the first commercial BLOOM FRESH™ table grape varieties grown by UVADOM in the Dominican Republic, a major milestone in advancing the Northern Hemisphere grape season and the first commercial shipment of grapes grown in the Caribbean to Europe.
This achievement reflects AMFRESH’s ability to connect varietal innovation, new production regions and leading distribution programmes through an integrated platform spanning genetics, agricultural production and retail services.
The first grapes will be available in selected Spanish supermarkets, including El Corte Inglés and Eroski, offering Spanish consumers earlier access to premium seedless table grapes. The first commercial launch includes Sweet Celebration™, BLOOM FRESH™’s renowned red seedless grape variety, known for its outstanding flavour profile, crisp texture, vibrant appearance and strong consumer appeal.
A new early supply window for Europe
The project highlights how next-generation varietal innovation and global sourcing strategies are creating new opportunities to extend the availability of premium table grapes, open earlier supply windows and enhance the consumer experience in international markets.
Dominican Republic represents a complementary origin with strong potential to help bring forward the European table grape season, while delivering exceptional quality and consistency.
“The premium table grape category in Spain is evolving rapidly, and at AMFRESH we are constantly working to identify new origins and supply windows capable of delivering differentiated experiences to supermarkets and consumers,” said Paula Gil, Commercial Manager at AMFRESH Iberia.
“The Dominican Republic represents a major opportunity to continue advancing the European season with differentiated varieties that stand out for their flavour, crunch, freshness and consistency. This first shipment from the Caribbean to Europe demonstrates how varietal innovation, global sourcing strategy and commercial execution can open up new opportunities for the category.”
New varieties adapted to new climates
For his part, Moisés Ureña, BLOOM FRESH™ lead in the Dominican Republic, said: “From the beginning, we identified huge potential in the Dominican Republic to become a new strategic origin for table grapes, capable of complementing global supply calendars.
“This project goes far beyond a first commercial shipment. It is about understanding how new varieties can successfully adapt to new climates, bring forward production cycles and generate new opportunities for growers and international markets.
“The first agronomic and commercial results have been very promising, and it is especially exciting to see this first commercial fruit now arriving in Spain as we continue to explore the long-term growth potential for Europe and North America.”
