The planning of the summer campaign has enabled Europlátano to expand its commercial alternatives beyond the Spanish mainland market, which during this period has been characterised by high product availability and increased pressure on prices.
Switzerland has become a key destination within this strategy. The company has achieved a more than 150% increase in marketed volume compared with the previous year, reaching its highest-ever level in this market.
In addition, Europlátano will strengthen the promotion of Canary Gold in the coming weeks, with the shipment of six trucks of Canary Islands bananas to Switzerland over a three-week period.
This operation allows the company to establish a fixed minimum return price of €0.80 per kilo for its growers, providing greater stability during periods of high production and market pressure.
Forecasting production from the farm
One of the key pillars of this strategy is the forecasting model developed through Europlátano’s “birth module” within its digital farm logbook.
This tool enables the company to record and monitor flowering and banana bunch development on farms several months in advance. The information collected helps anticipate available volumes and design commercial campaigns adapted to specific demand windows.

Europlátano links this forecasting capability to its integrated supply chain management model, covering the process from farm to market. This approach allows the company to coordinate production and sales, closing agreements with both international customers and national retail chains.
Reducing reliance on fruit removal
This planning system has also helped reduce the need to resort to fruit removal, known in the sector as “pica”, to residual volumes, according to the company.
The objective is to increase the proportion of fruit that finds a commercial outlet and protect the economic performance of crops during periods when the domestic market faces higher supply pressure.
Europlátano highlights the importance of anticipating production trends in order to identify market opportunities and schedule commercial actions with sufficient advance notice.
The record performance achieved in Switzerland represents a further step in the group’s internationalisation strategy, aimed at diversifying destinations and expanding commercial alternatives for Canary Islands bananas, particularly during periods of greater pressure on the domestic market.
