According to current campaign forecasts, regional production will exceed 105,000 tonnes, representing an increase of 24,000 tonnes compared to the previous year, consolidating an upward trend in both volume and planted area.

Murcia currently has more than 5,000 hectares dedicated to artichoke cultivation, a 5% increase compared to the previous campaign. This growth is particularly concentrated in strategic areas such as the Guadalentín Valley and Campo de Cartagena, where the crop has become one of the pillars of the regional horticultural sector.

In terms of foreign trade, the most relevant figure is that eight out of every ten artichokes exported by Spain originate from the Region of Murcia, positioning the region as the undisputed leader in international markets. This export strength is driven by increased production, sector professionalisation, and improvements in logistics and commercial channels.

These figures were highlighted during the seventh edition of “El colmo de los colmos”, organised by the Alcachofa de España association in San Pedro del Pinatar, coinciding with the second harvest of the campaign. The event brought together growers, institutional representatives and sector stakeholders, in a context marked by the positive performance of the 2025–2026 campaign.

The Regional Ministry of Agriculture emphasised the strategic importance of this crop within Murcia’s agri-food model.

For its part, the Alcachofa de España association positively assessed the development of the campaign, which runs from October to April in the Region of Murcia, highlighting the stability of production and growing demand in both domestic and international markets.

The event also featured artist Nuria Fergó as this year’s ambassador, in an initiative aimed at increasing product visibility among end consumers, complementing the sector’s technical and commercial efforts.

With these indicators, artichokes are consolidating their position as one of Spain’s most promising horticultural crops, with Murcia at the centre of its production and export growth.
