The cooperative Los Gallombares, Europe’s leading producer and marketer of green asparagus and the second largest worldwide, is kicking off the national green asparagus campaign, consolidating its brands La Joya, Luxe and Luxor as quality benchmarks on the most demanding European retail shelves.
After three decades of specialisation, the Granada-based cooperative approaches a new campaign marked by growth in volume, diversification of formats and a sustainable production model that integrates every stage from the farm to the packing facilities.
For 2026, Los Gallombares expects to exceed 10 million kilos of asparagus during the Spanish campaign, driven by the expansion of plantations in Granada and in other Andalusian provinces such as Málaga, Jaén, Córdoba and Huelva. This national production base, supported by 2,500 hectares and more than 700 professional growers, makes it possible to plan a broad and reliable supply calendar for large-scale retail and the specialised channel.
Premium brands
The strategy prioritises established brands aimed at the premium segment due to their organoleptic parameters: La Joya, the flagship brand with supreme gourmet quality derived from the Granada microclimate; Luxe focuses on superior calibre, freshness and uniformity for export markets; and Luxor, a versatile and customisable brand designed for large volumes.

The area’s microclimates, the altitude of the farms and agronomic management practices make it possible to obtain a product with intense colour (green lanceolate spears), a crunchy texture (fibrosity <5%), balanced flavour (low bitterness), low fibre content and extended post-harvest life, qualities highly valued by international buyers. These attributes are supported by certifications such as GlobalG.A.P., GRASP, SPRING and IFS Food, which guarantee food safety, traceability and good social practices throughout the entire chain.
Market adaptation
The cooperative offers a portfolio of formats designed to adapt to all market needs. In trays, it provides several presentations in different weights; in bulk, asparagus is marketed in boxes made from recyclable materials; and in bunches, La Joya signs calibres ranging from thin to jumbo, in addition to specific tip formats for modern foodservice. This wide range of references facilitates category management at the point of sale and offers solutions for both domestic consumers and professional clients.
Sustainability as a core pillar
Sustainability has become another key differentiating factor for the cooperative. In the field, close to 80% of the hectares are cultivated under dry-farming conditions, taking advantage of rainfall and highly efficient irrigation systems. In its facilities, Los Gallombares already covers around 80–90% of its energy consumption with solar panels and has replaced around 95% of the plastic in its packaging with biodegradable, compostable or recyclable paper materials. This is complemented by an investment of more than €4.5 million in automation and 15 high-precision packing lines capable of processing up to 180,000 kilos per day with maximum resource efficiency.
Year-round supply
Thanks to the combination of national production and counter-season imports, Los Gallombares guarantees asparagus and green beans 365 days a year, offering continuous service to its clients in more than 25 countries. The 2026 national campaign positions its brands as premium benchmarks, aligning volume, superior organoleptic specifications and quantified CSR (90% solar energy, –95% plastic) to gain market share in the global green asparagus market.
