Convenience continues to gain momentum among consumers. The fresh-cut category is no longer a trend but an established market reality. At UNICA, this has long been recognised, with the company investing in and expanding its fresh-cut range year after year.
“This season marks an important step with the launch of our first fresh-cut watermelon products: halves and quarters, as well as orange watermelon as an example of product differentiation,” the company told Fruit Today.
Innovation is a key pillar of UNICA’s strategy, driving continuous improvement to meet the needs of different consumer profiles and consumption occasions.
A comprehensive convenience range
The company offers a broad portfolio of washed, cut and ready-to-cook products, specifically designed to make everyday cooking easier. All are prepared at Ferva Aguadulce, the company’s processing facility in Almería.
The latest addition to this convenience range is a new grated tomato, produced using High Pressure Processing (HPP) technology, which preserves the authentic flavour of freshly grated tomato.
Because the process avoids heat treatment, it helps retain the nutritional properties of fresh tomatoes while ensuring food safety. The product also offers a shelf life of up to nine weeks, helping to reduce food waste.

“This launch forms part of UNICA’s strategy to create added value while adapting to changing consumer demands,” the company explains.
Among UNICA’s flagship fresh-cut products, available for both the retail and Horeca channels, are sweet potato sticks as an alternative to traditional potato side dishes, and carrot sticks designed as a healthy snack.
Another well-established product is the company’s vegetable wok mix, prepared using vegetables supplied by the different cooperatives that make up UNICA. Thanks to the cooperative’s extensive fresh produce portfolio, the mix combines red and yellow peppers, courgette, carrot, broccoli and onion.
