The California varieties from Top Seeds stand out due to their high production, which is staggered over the cycle and great fruit quality
Now more than ever, the current situation, with the soaring price of inputs and a significant increase in production costs, is making the agricultural sector look closer at the yield when choosing varieties to grow. Accordingly, the seed company Top Seeds has two California pepper varieties that stand out owing to their important productivity: Top Arnon and Galiano. A productivity that also occurs staggered over the growing cycle, which at the end of the campaign is translated into high yield for the farmers.
Top Arnon, for early cycle, and Galiano for medium and late sowing, also stand out for the number of kilos of high quality fruit that they provide over the crop cycle. “With suitable handling, they do not give producers any problems and they guarantee a high production,” emphasises Melchor Guzmán, a salesman from Top Seeds Ibérica for the Western Almeria area.
Agronomically-speaking, Galiano stands out due to its strong plant and easy handling. The variety offers an easy setting and high production, with G-GG fruit, square, with excellent colour and firmness, without any cracking and that can remain on the plant for longer and that has an excellent post-harvest. For all these reasons, producers underscore their high quality.
In the case of Top Arnon, the seed company recommends the variety for early cycle, as “it doesn’t shock, thanks to its root system, the strongest on the market.” This characteristic allows the variety to be planted in all types of soil: heavy, not loose, etc. The plant, with an open growth and medium internodes, is early and fast-growing and it produces 10 kilos in a normal cycle. The fruit, which are uniform, reach a G-GG size from the beginning, with “fantastic quality”, endorsed by good wall thickness and excellent colour, both in green and red fruits.
