The project, which is scheduled to begin construction in the second quarter of 2026 and be completed by the end of 2028, forms part of the company’s long-term growth strategy and its commitment to maintaining a leading position in the global vegetable seed market.
The new facility will significantly enhance BASF Nunhems’ capacity to deliver high-quality seeds to growers worldwide, reinforcing its role as a central hub within the company’s global supply chain. Currently, seeds produced across BASF’s international network are transported to Nunhem for cleaning, processing, testing and final preparation before distribution.
As part of the expansion, the operational footprint at the site will increase by approximately 6,000 square metres, building on the existing 20,000m² processing infrastructure. The investment also includes the renovation and upgrading of existing buildings, alongside the construction of new processing areas equipped with advanced technologies.

A key feature of the new facility will be its sustainability profile. Once completed, it will operate entirely on renewable energy, improving energy efficiency and significantly reducing emissions. The upgraded infrastructure will also support higher-capacity quality testing, ensuring seeds meet increasingly demanding standards in global markets.
The development reflects BASF Nunhems’ focus on combining technological innovation with operational efficiency, enabling more precise handling, storage and distribution of vegetable seeds.
The project has also been recognised at local level, underlining the company’s long-standing presence in the region and its contribution to economic activity and employment.
With this investment, BASF Nunhems reinforces its strategic commitment to innovation, quality and sustainability, positioning its Nunhem site as a key pillar for future growth in the vegetable seed sector.
