The firm has important new developments in its references both for cultivation in open air and under plastic
Tozer Ibérica continues to add references to its already extensive offer of products. For open air, it has taken on the distribution for Spain and Portugal of hybrid celery seeds which until now were marketed by HM.Clause, such as Hadrian F1, TZ9779 and the popular Julius F1 and Monterrey F1. All of them are characterised by their good flavour, resistance to sprouting, diseases and their durability in the fields. It is a well-known line in the main production areas of Murcia, Alicante and Albacete, and the seed company expects to continue extending its client portfolio, given the increase in demand by consumers. “Previously, celery was not used so often in dishes. It was more usual to see it in broths, but it is becoming more popular due to ready-prepared products such as sticks for dipping,” Carmen Sánchez, communications and logistics manager, explains to Fruit Today.
They have also started producing their Kalettes for open air cultivation in Tarragona, through an exclusive agreement with Verdcamp. It has been no easy task to find the most suitable area for the crops, but after several years they have achieved some excellent results regarding quality with this natural hybrid combining Brussels sprouts and kale. “At present, it is already being marketed in Carrefour and we are in the process of introducing it in other supermarkets.”
In the broccoli segment, the upward trend by Tirreno over the past 4 years is worth mentioning, thanks to characteristics such as its compactness, resilience in the field and its good post-harvest. “Farmers continue to place their trust in us.”
Regarding crops cultivated under plastic, Tozer is promoting its very sweet-flavoured Orange Luxury F1 cherry tomato for selling loose, which is ideal for three-coloured combinations and in which great expectations have been placed. A tomato of the baby plum type, “this tomato is recommended mainly for transplanting in August,” comments the new sales technician for Almeria, Manuel Ruiz.
