Biodynamics ‘by CASI’

29 May, 2019

In January they will market their first certified products in this category

This year, the Cooperativa Agrícola San Isidro (CASI) has continued with its commitment to ecological farming with 115 hectares of crops, and next year it will have around 200 hectares if we include those it already has in ecological, the ones that are currently undergoing a conversion process and the ones used for biodynamic crops. In January, they will start marketing their first products carrying the biodynamic certificate, which once again shows the strong commitment of CASI’s farmers to sustainable production systems, sources from the company explain. “This eco line is going to become more and more important,” they advance to Fruit Today.

In general, they are maintaining the same varieties in the product range offered by the cooperative, but in future campaigns they will add three new gourmet developments in biological tomatoes, all of them with high flavour.

In terms of installations, the company is about to start building work to extend its premises in San Isidro (Níjar), modernising and improving them. The ecological produce will be centralised there (for reception, preparation and packaging) and one area will also be used for handling watermelons. In this way, capacity will be extended and costs reduced.

Also within its bio strategy, a few months ago it fitted out a part of Los Partidores auction house to accommodate this type of produce.

The company markets its bio range under its own brand ‘Organic by CASI’, which includes courgettes, vine tomatoes, Dutch cucumbers, plum tomatoes, vine and loose cherry tomatoes, plum cherry tomatoes, California peppers and mini watermelons (in season).

At CASI, quality, safety and a job well done are the lines to follow, in order to continue delving deep into the trust placed in the company by its customers, aimed, as already occurs with conventional crops, at making the cooperative into a reference in organic produce, Ángel Gutiérrez, head of Ecological Produce Marketing, indicated at the beginning of the year.
