The cooperative from Granada Los Gallombares will arrive at the Berlin Messe Trade Fair with renewed strength, having reached a production of 7 million kilos, including all their references. The most important one, asparagus (they also have beans), may be tasted on the first and second days of the trade fair at different tastings on their stand (Hall 18 B-05a), where the high quality of a product that enjoys great acceptance on European markets will be valued. However, the manager Francisco Delgado, points out that they should not take their eyes off the growing competition. “Countries such as Poland, Italy, Germany and France are increasing their productions, as is the case of Bulgaria, which produces at the same time as us.” Outside the EU framework, Peru and Mexico continue making their presence felt with their exports.
In order to deal with all of this, they are undertaking some renovations to increase their efficiency. Recently, they automated their handling processes with the installation of 8 state-of-the-art technology machines that cut, classify and weigh the asparagus, allowing 30% more produce to be moved. A modernisation that has entailed an investment of 2.5 million euros.
