Strawberries, the stars of Macfrut

A symbol of the rebirth of the Italian horticultural sector, this fruit will be celebrated with the “Strawberry Days”, a series of initiatives which, from the 7th to the 13th of May, will supplement the international trade fair devoted to the horticultural sector.

With a production of 150,000 tonnes per year in Italy, Macfrut, which this year will take place from the 10th to the 12th of May in Rimini, has decided to pay tribute to the strawberry with a special initiative, “Strawberry Days”: events, tastings, exhibitions, promotions and a musical competition.

In Italy, strawberry production is centred in the regions of Basilicata, Campania, Emilia-Romana, Veneto and Piamonte. Thanks to its geographical characteristics, Italy produces strawberries during different months of the year – those grown in Sicily and other southern areas of the country from January, reaching full production in May. In Emilia-Romana and other areas, the strawberry crop uses integrated production techniques, with a low environmental impact and increasingly in keeping with ecological farming methods.
