Leading representatives of the global banana industry have gathered in Mérida, Yucatán, for the XXV ACORBAT | X CORBANA International Meeting, a key forum designed to exchange knowledge and address the most pressing technical, scientific and commercial challenges facing the sector.
The event, which officially began with its registration phase, has brought together more than 1,200 participants, including researchers, producers, exporters, public authorities and industry companies from over 40 countries.
The congress has established itself as a strategic platform to analyse the current situation and future outlook of banana production, at a time when the sector is facing increasing phytosanitary risks, sustainability requirements and rapid technological transformation.

Among the priority issues is Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense Tropical Race 4 (TR4), a disease that currently represents one of the greatest concerns for the industry due to its potential impact on food security, international trade and the economic sustainability of thousands of producers worldwide.
In addition to TR4, the congress will also address other key challenges affecting banana production, including Black Sigatoka and Moko disease, focusing on containment, prevention and management strategies.
The programme includes keynote presentations, technical sessions and scientific poster exhibitions, promoting research-based solutions aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the global banana sector.
Innovation and business opportunities
Innovation and technology also play a central role in the congress agenda. Discussions will explore the integration of artificial intelligence into banana production systems, highlighting its potential to improve efficiency, sustainability and crop performance.
Alongside the technical programme, a commercial exhibition will showcase the latest technologies, inputs and services related to banana cultivation.
The event also features a dedicated business matchmaking platform, designed to facilitate strategic meetings between suppliers, producers, exporters and industry organisations, fostering new partnerships and international investment opportunities.
