ORRi closes the season with record prices and stronger international positioning

According to data from the Valencia Citrus Exchange, ORRi once again ranks as the highest-priced mandarin on the market

The ORRi mandarin marketing season is entering its final stage with a highly positive balance, marked by record farmgate prices, sustained demand and stronger positioning both in Spain and internationally.

According to data from the Valencia Citrus Exchange and the Valencia agricultural price bulletin, ORRi reached an average price of €1.35/kg during the 2025/26 season, with peaks of up to €1.60/kg for the highest-quality lots. This places the variety, once again, as the best-paid mandarin on the market.

“In 2026, ORRi growers achieved the highest farmgate prices ever recorded,” said Guillermo Soler, manager of the ORRi Running Committee (ORC). “ORRi also continues to be the mandarin variety with the longest marketing window in the sector,” he added.

Although the campaign was marked by a slight reduction in the crop compared with its production potential, mainly due to rainfall in spring 2025, the variety has once again shown strong resilience to adverse weather conditions.

Winter rains also contributed to larger fruit sizes, helping to maintain high and stable prices, supported by consistent demand throughout the season.

Premium quality and international expansion

ORRi continues to consolidate its position as a premium mandarin thanks to its excellent organoleptic qualities, flavour and firmness on the shelf, attributes that are particularly valued in the most demanding markets. These characteristics also helped the variety win the Crystal Taste Award last year, one of the most coveted distinctions in the food industry.

A key milestone this season was the launch of ORC’s first promotional actions outside Spain, specifically in France. For approximately one month, campaigns were carried out in more than 200 points of sale.

At the same time, a number of consumer-focused initiatives were rolled out, including street activations, collaborations with content creators and influencers, and social media campaigns designed to increase brand awareness and connect with an increasingly demanding consumer.

“We expect to consolidate ORRi’s positioning in France and continue to drive consumption in this key market. The goal is to build a strong long-term brand, progressively increasing awareness and strengthening its presence on shelves,” Soler said.

Innovation and sustainability

With ORRi, sustainability is not just a message, but a way of working that can be seen in every fruit. Grown in Spain under strict European standards, this mandarin combines proximity, responsibility and efficiency throughout its journey from tree to consumer.

Its ability to remain in excellent condition for months, thanks to its natural resistance to physiological disorders such as fruit and peel softening, allows it to cover an unmatched commercial window from January to June while maintaining its exceptional premium quality. This unusual characteristic makes it possible to adapt harvesting to the real pace of the market.

As a result, the need for prolonged storage and postharvest treatments is reduced, while food waste—one of today’s major sustainability challenges—is minimised.

ORRi’s sustainability is also built in the field. Its resistance to diseases such as Alternaria reduces the need for interventions and supports more environmentally respectful cultivation. This is complemented by its self-incompatible nature, which ensures virtually seedless mandarins and contributes to balanced coexistence with other farms and pollinating insects.

The result is clear: a mandarin that not only tastes better, but is also produced better. A mandarin that demonstrates its sustainability at every stage of the consumption chain.
