After attending the 9th International Citric Fruit Seminar of Peru as a sponsor, Benito Orihuel, managing director of Citrosol, discussed the forum’s highlights with Fruit Today.
What’s your market share in this market?
We have a market share of 60-65%, which means that we cover practically all of Peru’s export market. We’re leaders in Peru in the citric fruit post-harvest.
Apart from being the main sponsors of this event, you, as a professional and a scientist, participated in some of the presentations. What was your contribution?
My first presentation dealt with Citrosol’s technical-commercial approaches for the specific handling of Peruvian citric fruits. The second talk discussed spots that appear in the post-harvest and how to deal with resistance to the fungicides currently being used, specifically alternatives in handling the resistance of Penicilium fungi.
Peru is one of the countries with the greatest development in the agricultural sector, not only in citric fruits but also in other products. Is Citrosol interested in any of them?
Yes, that’s right. We’re developing treatment systems and technologies aimed at other fruits. We try to get ahead of our client’s needs and improve our post-harvest solutions. We’ll soon announce new solutions to enable fruit to be sent to more distant destinations.
You’re a company that invests a lot in R&D+i. What’s your latest development?
We’ve just launched an innovative technology for disinfecting fruit and vegetable storerooms and warehouses, since hygiene is essential not only for controlling rot but also for improving food safety guarantees.
We combine our Nebulizer X3 System with Citroguanida LU, which is a product ready for use, made with organic salts and polymeric biguanides that are highly effective against fungi, bacteria and yeasts, especially for disinfecting atmospheres and surfaces by air. These are new biocides with a mild toxicological profile, for which no MLRs have been established as regards cross-contamination.
By the way, what do you think about the way the now famous Citrosol container has been received in the different places that it has visited?
The container is now returning from Egypt, from the MAC Fruit Attraction, where we were able to show the professional public the most critical stages of the journey and how, by means of our technology, fruit can reach distant destinations in Africa, America, Asia, the Middle East and Ocean in perfect condition.
