CMR GROUP’s new premises will improve efficiency

23 April, 2019

The installations of CMR INFINITA, the company’s name in Mercamadrid, which will start working shortly, consolidate its functionality and efficiency within the wholesale venue

With a constructed surface of 8,500 m², which brings together 36 banana ripening rooms and another 6 for tropical produce, it will mean a new, more efficient and productive working formula, built using the highest standards for environmental and energy sustainability.

“From now on, we are gaining in dispatch time; we will be more flexible and ecological because our transport requirements from one warehouse to another are reduced and all the human resources are centralised,” explains Jesús López, manager of CMR Infinita.

Bananas, grapes, citrus fruits, melons and berries

The banana and plantain family is amongst the top places on the overall fruit and vegetable portfolio marketed by the company. Therefore, this category has been paid special attention in the new installations, which incorporate rooms for ripening bananas, with a ripening capacity of 40 million kilos per year that will cover our ripening requirements,” the executive points out.

Grapes, citrus fruit, melons and berries follow this category in marketing volume.

The company’s new challenge, once the warehouse in Madrid is fully up and running, will involve renewing its facilities in Mercabarna, where, once again, the banana ripening rooms will play an important role.

Specialists in counterseason

With highly consolidated counterseason sources, such as Chile, Peru, Brazil and South Africa, CMR is one of the landmark companies in these business lines. “Our aim has always been to offer produce twelve months a year and, with sources that are very reliable, we are certain that we have achieved it,” López underscores.

Another of the company’s important mainstays is its own melon production (1,200 hectares) from one of the most important sources in the world: Brazil, which it markets under its own produce brand name: COSARICA.

In 2018 CMR Infinita marketed around 70 million kilos and it also holds relevant certificates such as Fairtrade, Rainforest, GRASP, ISO and IFS, an unquestionable guarantee of the fact that the produce it markets meets the market requirements and trends.

The markets

The strategic location of the installations in Madrid and its radial nature allow it to serve the demands of the Portuguese market, as well as all the Spanish communities and North Africa with great speed.

The Group also has a branch in Leon, CMR León, which is supervised by the Madrid office.

In Europe, the group has installations in Holland and France, from which it serves the requirements throughout Europe. To tackle what will be the new area of opportunities in the world, Africa, there is a company in Casablanca, under the name of CMR Maroc SARLU.
